THE INSIDER: Updates, news and happenings
Happy New Year!
Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Insider. There's lots of activity at the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay these days. We've heard from several of you that it's hard to keep up with all the updates, news and happenings. So we're introducing this new, for-donors-only communication -- which will arrive at least monthly -- to bring you quick, easy-to-read highlights of our activity and opportunities for you to join in. (This first one is a bit longer than normal because there's lots to catch up on.)

We will still produce our regular newsletter periodically with more extensive stories and a broader audience. Between those publications, however, you will get the inside scoop here. Thank you for being an inspired giver at the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay.

Updates on CFTB donor impact
A few highlights of 2017 to kick off 2018:
  • The LEAP College Access Network – a collaboration among the Foundation and a number of community partners – made significant gains in helping students apply for financial aid and in creating a pathway to a college degree or a high quality certification.
  • USAmeriBank Foundation and Helios Education Foundation established a new scholarship held at the Foundation that will provide $1.5 million in aid to FUSE students. FUSE is a new direct enrollment program that puts students on a graduation path from community college where they earn their associate degree through their bachelor’s degree at USF. Helios has pledged an additional $1 million as a 2-to-1 match when LEAP partners raise another $500,000 for the FUSE Scholarship Fund.
  • Social enterprise was a major theme of our grantmaking and outreach to nonprofits. Our 2017 Big Idea Grant provided $50,000 seed funding so that the Pinellas Ex-Offender Re-entry Coalition could launch its Tiny House Manufacturing Project, which offers job training and generates funding for other coalition programs.
  • We also joined with Social Venture Partners to help 13 nonprofits develop their ideas for generating revenue to support their missions, which culminated in a Fast Pitch competition that awarded $60,000 to the winners.  (See news stories about the event below).
  • We partnered to produce the Regional Competitiveness Report, which benchmarks our region in a variety of economic competitiveness and prosperity indicators. See it at www.tinyurl.com/tampabayreport.
