To benefit youth from St. Lawrence Catholic School
Maureen Hansma dedicated her life to educating children. Most of her teaching career was devoted to St. Lawrence Catholic School. She spent over 25 years there, 19 as Principal ensuring that her kids got the best education possible. She actually retired three times, but kept coming back whenever Monsignor Higgins called.
Maureen was our mother, not by birth, but by choice. She took on three kids with her new marriage and made us a family. As a family, we feel the best way to honor her is to support the school that she supported for so many years.
Her influence in the community was never more evident than when we were out shopping or at a restaurant. Without fail, some child would run up saying ”Mrs. Hansma, Mrs. Hansma!”. Our Mom would bend down with a comforting hug and talk to that child asking about siblings and parents by name. She knew everyone and everyone knew her. It was obvious that she impacted hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives over the years.
Our greatest hope is that this fund becomes a legacy that will continue to impact children’s lives in the same positive way that she did.
