Inspired Corporate Giving with the SME Foundation

–Each team member at SME was encouraged to select a nonprofit to share with the team including their personal connection and the mission. $500 was then gifted to each of those organizations.

SME Foundation was established at the Community Foundation Tampa Bay in 2018. Chris Moyer, owner, wanted to create a culture of giving back to the community for SME Solutions Group, his business intelligence and data analytics company. SME has employees located around the country and it was important to Chris to build a bond between his employees and the communities they serve.

SME Solutions Group brings their staff together annually for a company-wide retreat. This year the Annual All Hands Meeting was in person in downtown Tampa. The purpose for the retreat is to review business results, collaborate on projects, collectively look into the future, but most importantly, to bond as a team.  As part of the retreat, the leadership team hosts an activity to grow awareness and financially support nonprofits. Chris Moyer mentioned that “it’s one of my goals to empower and make it easy for the team to get involved with nonprofits that align with their passions, and the fact that we can do it as a team and have fun with it, is a huge bonus in my mind.”

This past year, each team member was encouraged to select a 501c3 to share with the team including personal connection and mission. $500 was then gifted to each of those nonprofits. This activity was the brainchild of President and CEO, Chris.

One of the nonprofits that benefited was Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Katlyn Patzwald selected this nonprofit for the activity because “it gave me the opportunity to bring some of my personal goals into my professional life in the best possible way. As a former Big Sister, being able to financially support this organization means a lot because that means more Big/Little “matches” can happen!”

Sarasota Bay Watch was another one of the beneficiaries, Brent Bies commented that “as an avid outdoorsman, I have a deep passion in making the right choices for our ecosystem. With that said, SME Solutions Group has given me the opportunity to financially support an organization near and dear to my heart, Sarasota Bay Watch. Being able to give more than my time to this amazing organization will continually put an effort into making sure our local community we live in stays beautiful and resourceful for many generations to come.”

The outcome of this philanthropic activity was a total of $10,000 donated to various 501c3s and the continued enhancement of SME Solutions Group’s company culture by sharing personal passions with the rest of the team.
