Please join us in welcoming Dr. Jerrica Peets to our LEAP Tampa Bay team as the new Project Manager for our Florida African American Male Experience (FAAME) grant partnership with St. Petersburg College (SPC).
In this role, she will work to maintain strong relationships and alignment of efforts among educational and community partners supporting cohorts of students starting their post-secondary journey at SPC.
Dr. Peets is a native Floridan returning to the Tampa Bay area after obtaining her Ph.D. from Penn State University. She has served as a mental health therapist in community settings, school districts, and outpatient clinics, bringing a wealth of knowledge from those previous roles and from her work as a research and teaching assistant. She received a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and master’s degree from University of Miami.
Growing up with several brothers helped inspire Dr. Peets’ research to center on creating healthy black men by increasing mental health literacy and help-seeking behaviors. In this work, she explored the perceptions and literacy of Black male coaches on mental health in youth athletics.
Dr. Peets’ mission statement is to positively change perceptions and world views through proper exposure and education that transcends tradition and generational limitations.
