Nominations open for National Philanthropy Day awards

Community Foundation of Tampa Bay underwrites $10,000 Award for Philanthropist of the Year honoree to provide to charity of their choice

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Suncoast Chapter is now accepting nominations for its National Philanthropy Day awards to recognize outstanding philanthropists and volunteers in our community. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the event in Tampa Bay, the presenting sponsor, Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, is offering a $10,000 grant on behalf of the individual who is awarded Philanthropist of the Year, to be given to a charity of his or her choice.

AFP will be presenting awards in seven categories at the National Philanthropy Day breakfast held Friday, November 15 at the Tampa Airport Marriott. Nomination applications may be submitted on the AFP Suncoast website at www.afpsuncoast.org by midnight on August 9.

“Since National Philanthropy Day debuted here 30 years ago, its awards have become one of the community’s most prized honors. We know philanthropists don’t do what they do for recognition. They do it for the joy of giving,” said Marlene Spalten, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. “It is our honor to provide this additional $10,000 grant in honor of the Philanthropist of the Year to reinforce the spirit of unity and giving in Tampa Bay and to encourage others to embrace philanthropy.”

Nominations are open in the following categories:

  • Philanthropist of the Year
  • Philanthropic Corporation of the Year
  • Gayle Sierens Volunteer of the Year in Philanthropy
  • Spirit of Philanthropy
